The invention relates to an internal combustion engine having exhaust turbocharging, comprising a plurality of cylinders (1 to 4), each having at least two outlet valves (16 to 23). According to the invention, each outlet valve (16 to 23) of a cylinder (1 to 4) is allocated to a cylinder-spanning group, wherein the allocated outlet valves (16, 18, 20, 22; 17, 19, 21, 23) thereof convey exhaust into a common exhaust channel (24; 25) upon opening and supply same to an allocated exhaust turbo charger (5; 6) by means of the common exhaust channel (24; 25). In addition, the outlet valves (16 to 23) can be controlled by a variable valve control. In order to optimize an activation of the exhaust turbocharger (5; 6), according to the invention an opening or a zero lift of the outlet valves (16 to 23) of each group can be depicted by the variable valve control, so that a complete supply of the exhaust to an individually allocated exhaust turbocharger (5; 6) or a partial supply of the exhaust to a plurality of allocated exhaust turbochargers (5; 6) occurs.
