<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoxy resin capable of giving an epoxy resin composition cured product excellent in various physical properties such as flame retardancy, low hygroscopicity, adhesion, a flexural modulus; and a method for producing the epoxy resin. <P>SOLUTION: The epoxy resin is prepared by reacting a mixture, which includes a specific ratio of an aldehyde condensation phenol compound, with epihalohydrin.
