The transmission control device (8) is provided with control-side function which is triggered depending on the change of the signal such that the control device stores a defined number of successive signal values of the signal. A difference is formed between the latest signal value in observation period and the oldest signal value in the observation period depending on an observation period defined for the control-side function. The control device triggers the control-side function only when the difference is absolutely more than a threshold value defined for the control-side function. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a motor vehicle.
