The method involves dividing an absorption medium charged with carbon dioxide into two partial flows after escaping from the absorber unit (1). The former partial flow and the latter partial flow are supplied to a desorber unit (2) and are supplied to different areas that are connected in series in flow direction of a carbon dioxide content gas stream separated from the charged absorption medium. The former partial flow of a desorption column is supplied to the desorption unit. The latter partial flow is supplied to a spray tower (11) of the desorption unit. An independent claim is included for a device for the separation of carbon dioxide from a flue gas flow emerging in a fossil fired power plant by an absorption medium in an absorber unit.
