<p>The present invention provides a system and a method for determining a natural frequency of an ultrasonic transducer (102, 202), an ultrasonic flowmeter (100, 200) operable in accordance with a natural frequency of an ultrasonic transducer (102, 202) incorporated therein, and a method for operating an ultrasonic flowmeter (100, 200) in accordance with the natural frequency of the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202) incorporated therein. An electrical excitation signal is provided to the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202) to induce ring-down oscillations in the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202) and sense a sample ring-down signal (304, 402) corresponding to the ring-down oscillations of the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202). The sample ring-down signal (304, 402) is matched with a set of reference ring-down signals to determine the natural frequency of the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202). Subsequently, the ultrasonic flowmeter (100, 200) incorporating the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202) is operated such that the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202) is driven using an electrical excitation signal with such frequency that matches the natural frequency of the ultrasonic transducer (102, 202).</p> |
