<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable quick rising/falling work of a leader by using leader erection assisting means which is simpler than an auxiliary heavy machine and can be installed at an uninhibited site. <P>SOLUTION: The ground improvement device comprises: a leader 2 pivotally supported at the front end of a base machine in a tiltable manner; supporting stays 3 having upper ends pivotally supported on the back of the leader and lower ends disposed on both sides of the base machine, respectively; and a wire 8 delivered from a winch on the side of the base machine and connected at its front end to the upper side of the leader. Herein, as leader erection assisting means 4 in addition to the wire 8 for the leader 2 to rise from the falling condition, there are provided an installation base 41 on a ground surface side, a supporting arm 44 having a lower end turnably supported on the installation base and an upper end provided with a pad 43 abutting on the front end of the leader, and an expansion member 45 connected at one end to the side of the installation base and at the other end to the side of the supporting arm, and totally variable and adjustable.
