The invention relates to a method for determining a position of a lock element (4) of an injection valve (3) for an internal combustion engine, in which, in order to lock the injection valve, the lock element is moved in the direction of a locked position in a closing movement, and subsequently a closure time is measured at which the lock element arrives in the locked position, wherein a time difference between the closure time and a preceding starting time of the closing movement is determined, and a position which the lock element has assumed at the starting time of the closing movement is determined using the time difference. The invention also relates to an injection system (1) which is configured for carrying out such a method.
