[Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group II] Melting and refining metals such as iron or steel scrap is effected in two electric furnaces disposed one behind the other so that their longitudinal axes are in a common plane, one furnace B, Fig. 1, being a melting furnace of the high speed heavy demand type and the other A a refining furnace of the low demand type and of larger size than the melting furnace A. Each furnace which is of the kind described in Specification 552,511 has tilting mechanism of the kind described in Specification 548,168. The furnace B is tilted to discharge metal from the spout 13 into the receiving spout 21 of the furnace A. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes modified arrangements in which the refining furnace is fed from one or a pair of melting furnaces having their longitudinal axes arranged at an .angle to the axis of the refining furnace. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
