[Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] The surplus oil supplied to a shaft bearing is led over the outer surface of the bearing to cool the bearing. The bush 1 has an annular oil channel 1a fed from a filter 11 in a trough supplied by a rotating scoop 4 and spout 5. The oil flows from the channel 1a to gutters 1b and thence to the bearing surfaces of the bush 1 and by tunnels 6 to the tilting-pad thrust bearings in the end flanges of the bush. The excess oil flows from channel 1a through holes 7 to annular chambers 2, 3 between the bush and the housing, annular fins or rings 2a, 3a being provided on the exterior of the bush. The chambers 2, 3 have ventilation holes 9 and escape holes 8. Specification 452,875 is referred to. |
