An apparatus providing a fluid for treating a surface comprises a spray head 29 for applying the fluid to the surface, a fluid delivery means for delivering the fluid to the spray head and a catchment tray 11 for collecting the fluid after it has been applied to the surface. A fluid return line 20 removes the fluid from the catchment tray and a pump 22 creates a vacuum in the fluid return line. The apparatus also includes a releaseable coupling 12 which has two engagable parts (13, 14, Fig. 2) and a plurality of channels, one channel is connected to the fluid delivery means and another channel is connected to the fluid return line when the parts are engaged. Each channel comprises a valve which opens when the engagable parts are engaged to allow fluid to flow through the coupling and is closed when the engagable parts are disengaged to prevent fluid flow. A pressure monitor 23 measures the pressure in the fluid return line, wherein the measured pressure is compared to a plurality of pre-set pressure values to determine the correct functioning of the apparatus. Suitably, the apparatus is used to disinfect wounds using aqueous ozone.
