A method for manufacturing an organic EL device, including: while supplying a strip-shaped substrate (21), forming an organic EL film (19) on the substrate (21) by successively vapor depositing at least an organic layer including a light-emitting layer (25a) and an electrode layer (27) on one side of the substrate (21); and successively winding up the substrate (21) on which the organic EL film (19) is formed by the vapor deposition, wherein the substrate (21) is wound up along with a strip-shaped protective film (30) that is softer than the substrate (21) while supplying the protective film (30) and adhering the protective film to a non-vapor deposition side of the substrate (21).
