Display and control device for medical equipment has a number of identically configured control and display units (6a-f) contained within a base unit (7). The latter has data bus to which the units are connected via base unit connection devices. Once a unit is connected, a configuration unit transmits configuration data to it and only then is the operation function of the unit defined.
