The method involves detecting an actual shape of specific part of a joint element (17) using an endoscope camera (13), and reading and storing the actual shape of the specific part using a computer. The actual shape of the specific part is compared with a reference shape of the specific part, where the reference shape is defined from patient data and model data of the joint element. A deviation between the actual and reference shapes of the specific part is utilized for computer-aided planning of abrasion of the specific part.
