The unit 2 comprises a number of tensioned rods 6, a number of low density inserts 20 located above the rods and a number of reinforcing bars 34 provided around the inserts. The inserts, bars and rods are all encased in a unitary concrete casing 100. The bars may be provided around three sides of the inserts and comprise a unitary framework. There may be two sets of bars which extend longitudinally and laterally with respect to a base portion of the unit. The inserts may be polystyrene. Also claimed is a method of forming the unit by locating the rods in a mould in a first amount of concrete then placing the inserts and bars and adding a second amount of concrete before the first amount has set. Also claimed is a method of using the unit in conjunction with others and securing them to support columns using beams. |
