The device (10) has an input device (80) e.g. operating head (20), for inputting parameters and comprising a signal transmitter with two outputs (40, 45), where the transmitter is designed as an incremental encoder (30). Output signals provided at the outputs are phase-shifted to each other. Evaluation devices (60, 65) are connected to the respective outputs. The evaluation devices are provided for counting pulses based on the output signals. Comparison devices (70, 75) compare measurement results of the evaluation devices, where the evaluation devices are connected with a display device.
