<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To pulverize raw materials of any type effectively and to elongate the life of a mill roller in a vertical roller mill. <P>SOLUTION: In the vertical roller mill including a rotary table 20 rotating in a circumferential direction in combination with a plurality of vertical crushing rollers 10A located at regular intervals in a rotating direction on the rotary table, the crushing surface 11A of the roller is divided into a main crushing surface 11A' and a secondary crushing surface 11A", a crushing surface other than the main crushing surface.
