<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling unit which can quickly cools an abnormal unit cell. <P>SOLUTION: A battery module has a cooling unit 20 installed between adjacent unit cells 10 therein. The cooling unit 20 includes a fragile part 24, so that when one of the unit cells 10 becomes abnormally hot, the temperature of a coolant rises as does the temperature of the cooling unit 20 and the vapor pressure of the coolant accordingly goes high, causing the internal pressure of the cooling unit 20 to rise. When the internal pressure of the cooling unit 20 exceeds pressure resistance in the fragile part 24, the fragile part 24 is opened, letting the coolant be discharged from the fragile part 24. The coolant discharged from the fragile part 24 is supplied to the abnormal unit cell 10, whereby the abnormal unit cell 10 is cooled. Therefore, this helps to prevent normal unit cells 10 from being exposed to high temperature, making it possible to prevent a chain reaction of abnormal heat generation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
