<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element with high efficiency and long life emitting light in a near-infrared region, and provide a light-emitting device, an authentication device, and an electronic appliance including the light-emitting element. <P>SOLUTION: A light-emitting element includes a light-emitting layer provided between an anode and a cathode, and an electron transport layer provided between the cathode and the light-emitting layer and in contact with the light-emitting layer. The light-emitting layer contains a compound represented by the following formula (1) as a light-emitting material.
