<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mist generator which accurately determines a failure on the basis of a temperature of water stored in a water storage chamber during mist operation, and stops the mist operation. <P>SOLUTION: The mist generator includes control means 41 which controls output of heating means 22 so as to hold temperature of water stored in the water storage chamber 8 at a set temperature, controls a driving means 13 and an air blower 4, to perform mist operation of supplying nano-mist and negative ions into the water storage chamber, and stops the mist operation when water level detection means 12 detects zero level during the mist operation. The mist generator further includes a counting means 45 which counts how many times the temperature detected by temperature detection means 23 when a heating heater 22 is OFF exceeds a preset overheating temperature higher than a set temperature, during the mist operation.
