<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve a content in an optimum format for a receiving apparatus from among contents that are composed of the same material and are encoded by different formats. <P>SOLUTION: A content transmitting apparatus includes a content information creation section for creating, as content information, information that specify a content downloaded by a content receiving apparatus, and acquisition destinations of content information of contents obtained by encoding the same material by different formats.
