OPTICAL MATERIAL AND MANUFACTURING METHOD FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material that has optical characteristics of high refractive index and low dispersion and includes LaAlO3 crystal with improved coloring, and provide a manufacturing method for the same.

SOLUTION: An optical material includes a perovskite-type LaAlO3 crystal that contains 3 ppm or more and 100 ppm or less of Fe. The Fe consists of divalent Fe ions and does not include any trivalent Fe ions. An ESR spectrum of the perovskite-type LaAlO3 crystal has no signal peak at a place where a g value is equivalent to 2.02. A manufacturing method for the optical material includes: a step for filling a mold with LaAlO3 particles of which an average particle diameter is 1 μm or more and 10 μm or less; and a step for burning them at a temperature of 1600°C or more and 1800°C or less in an inert gas atmosphere or in a vacuum.
