<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a recording device, in which firmware and setting values are separately stored in different storage areas, to normally perform various processing using the setting values when the firmware is rewritten, by controlling the setting values to be in accordance with the rewritten firmware. <P>SOLUTION: When rewriting firmware 25, a control unit 14 in a printer 1 stores information of additional setting values which are setting values to be added in accordance with the rewritten firmware 25 in a flash memory 19.
