PURPOSE: A portable device and a character input method thereof are provided to use a mounted sound wave sensing module and a processing unit calculating a location of a sound wave without connection of an external physical device, thereby providing the same effect as use of a keyboard. CONSTITUTION: A receiving unit(200) senses a first sound delivered along to a striking side from a typing point and a second sound delivered through air from the typing point. A processing unit(210) selects a location of the typing point based on a difference of time which the first sound and the second sound are sensed in the receiving unit. A character converting unit(220) converts the location into the corresponding character value. The receiving unit includes sound wave sensing modules which are separated each other.
