<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar lighting device capable of reducing cross talks effectively when used as a backlight for a liquid crystal display device of a naked-eye 3D display system. <P>SOLUTION: The planar lighting device 10 of a side-light type is provided with: a light guide plate 12; and light sources 17, 18 arranged along incident surfaces 13, 15 of the light guide plate 12. The planar lighting device is further provided with a both-side prism sheet 14 arranged on an emission face 19 side of the light guide plate 12 and an optical element 16 arranged on a rear face 20 side opposing the emission face 19 of the light guide plate 12.
