<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the MASTER/SLAVE relation of PHY to the master-servant relation of clock distribution only in a synchronous Ethernet network with 1000BASE-T, without generating link disconnection more than necessary. <P>SOLUTION: At device start-up, PHY of a 1000BASE-T port is set to a multiport device.
