<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress shortening of service life and clogging of a grindstone for polishing the outer peripheral surface of a valve lifter having a DLC coating formed on the crown surface of a crown part and a chamfered part. <P>SOLUTION: The valve lifter includes a skirt part 17 which slides on the guide hole of a cylinder head, a crown part 18 which is provided to one axial end side of the skirt part and integrally has a crown surface 20, and a tapered chamfered part 21 which is formed at the outer peripheral edge of the crown surface. A DLC coating 22 is provided only to the crown surface and chamfered part, the taper angle of the chamfered part based upon the outer peripheral surface 17a of the skirt part where the DLC coating is not provided is set to be equal to or less than 26.5°, and the length L of the chamfered part from the crown surface of the chamfered part in an axial direction of a cylinder part side is set to be equal to or larger than 1 mm, so that the grindstone which polishes the outer peripheral surface of the valve lifter is not in contact with the DLA coating 22b of the chamfered part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
