<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device which can acquire update information without requiring a user to repeat performing operations. <P>SOLUTION: A map display device comprises: generation means for generating update request signals for requesting to provide update map information more recent than map information stored in storage means; determination means for determining whether it is possible to update the map information or not, on receiving a request to update the map information; and registration means for registering area information indicating a specific area on a map of the map information which is requested to be updated, with the storage means, when the determination means determines that it is impossible to update the map information.
