PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic book device that can easily construct a word database exclusive for a user without using a special server and determine difficulty level of even contents that are not analyzed in advance.

SOLUTION: An electronic book device includes word database 18 for associating and storing word information with attribute information showing that a word is known or unknown; a book data storage part 12 for storing book data of an electronic book including sentences configured of a plurality of words; a book data word extracting part 15 for extracting words included in the stored book data; an operation part 14 for receiving retrieval operation of the extracted words; and a database update determining part 17 for updating the word database 18.
