PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member enhanced in the adhesion properties of the surface of a base material composed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy with a silver film, and a process for producing the sliding member.

SOLUTION: A piston 1 having the sliding surface 22 sliding through a cylinder bore 3 includes the resin layer 20 formed on the outer peripheral surface 11 of a body 10 composed of the aluminum alloy and the silver film layer 21 formed on the resin layer 20 to constitute the sliding surface 22.
