<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a pedestrian to accurately recognize an accelerator operated state by generating a sound more conforming to the actual accelerator operated state. <P>SOLUTION: There is used a curve that when the accelerator opening is not more than a first predetermined value, the sound pressure rising rate is gradually and gently increased, when it is in a range of at least the first predetermined value and not more than a second predetermined value, the climb gradient of the sound pressure rising rate is made larger than that when it is not more than the first predetermined value, when the accelerator opening is in a range from the second predetermined value to a third predetermined value, the climb gradient of the sound pressure rising rate is made small, and when it is in a range exceeding the third predetermined value, the sound pressure rising rate is saturated with a maximum value, whereby almost no change occurs in sound pressure in a region low in accelerator opening, particularly, in a range of idling of the accelerator, and the change in sound pressure can be made large within a range that the accelerator opening generation frequency is high and sound generation by the vehicle approach warning device 2 is particularly needed.
