The method involves injecting fuel in an internal combustion engine (1) during an desulfurization phase so as to make the engine to function in lean mixture combustion mode at first time slot, and in rich mixture combustion mode at a second time slot, in an alternative manner, where average richness of the fuel is higher than 1 during the desulfurization phase. Two phases of pre-injection of the fuel are realized before realization of main injection phase of the fuel. A phase of post-injection of the fuel is performed after the main injection phase. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a data recording medium readable by a computer having a set of instructions to perform a method for injecting fuel into an internal combustion engine (2) an injection system.
