<p>PURPOSE: An application resource selection device of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to selectively and automatically download an optimized application resource suitable for the portable terminal, thereby increasing user convenience. CONSTITUTION: When application download is selected, a controlling unit selectively downloads an application having a resource corresponding to screen information of a portable terminal among applications for a resource about the application provided in an application providing unit(200). The application providing unit stores resources of the application according to a kind of a screen size or/and screen density. When the download about the application is selected, the application providing unit provides the resources of the application according to the kind of the screen size or/and the screen density to the portable terminal.
