摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk in which a high polishing rate to a glass surface is secured without largely depending on the chemical polishing action of an abrasive. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a glass substrate for magnetic disk comprises a step of performing polishing by bringing into slide contact with a polishing pad while supplying a polishing liquid containing free abrasive grains to a main surface of a glass substrate. The surface of the polishing pad is provided with slide-contact parts which are slidably in contact with the main surface of the glass substrate and grooves formed between the slide-contact parts. And, the sum of the lengths of edges of the slide-contact parts formed per one square meter of the surface of the polishing pad is adjusted to 200 m or more and a filling factor which is an area ratio of the region of the slide-contact parts to the whole region of the surface of the polishing pad is adjusted to 80% or more. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
