The present invention provides an automatic network topology discovery method, apparatus, and system. One method comprises: an automatic network topology discovery proxy module acquiring the network type of an IP packet; if the network type of the IP packet is a direct interconnection network, performing request instant response detection on a destination IP address of the IP packet to obtain a first detection result; if the network type of the IP packet is a routed network, performing routing detection on the destination IP address of the IP packet to obtain an IP address of a router between a local end and a peer end; performing request instant response detection on the IP address of the router and the destination IP address of the IP packet respectively, to obtain a second detection result; and reporting the first detection result or the second detection result to a network topology discovery and analysis server, so that the network topology discovery and analysis server draws a network topology map upon receiving the first detection result or the second detection result.
