<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antireflection film having excellent antireflection characteristics to a beam with a wide wavelength range and a wide incident angle range, and practically sufficient durability, and to provide an optical element. <P>SOLUTION: The antireflection film has an optical bilayer structure including an intermediate layer provided on a base material and a low refractive index layer provided on the surface of the intermediate layer. The low refractive index layer is a layer with hollow silica particles bonded by a binder, and the refractive index (n1) is 1.15 or more and 1.24 or less.
