<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel sirtuin-modulating compounds and methods of use thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The compounds are expressed by the following formula (XVIII), wherein R<SP POS="POST">19</SP>shows a specific heterocyclic group; R<SP POS="POST">20</SP>is independently selected from H or a solubilizing group; R<SP POS="POST">21</SP>shows -NR1'-C(O)-, -NR1'-S(O)2-, etc.; and R<SP POS="POST">31</SP>shows an optionally substituted monocyclic or bicyclic aryl, or an optionally substituted monocyclic or bicyclic heteroaryl.
