The invention relates to a system for monitoring the observance of land traffic regulations by vehicles intended for transporting passengers or freight. The invention comprises a system and a method for monitoring in real time the observance of national regulations relating to: compulsory insurance for land vehicles; driving licences for land vehicles; speed limits for land vehicles on the various types of roads, or segments thereof, in the country; and maximum time limits for non-stop driving of land vehicles for transporting passengers or freight. The system detects, in real time, any violations of the aforementioned regulations and informs the proper traffic authorities, thus maximising the efficiency of said authorities for penalising violations. The ability to detect and notify violations in real time makes the system an optimal device for preventing and drastically reducing accidents.
