The method involves performing comparative analysis of traffic and/or weather information from traffic and/or weather information sources (FF, V/WZ). The information, which is applicable to a navigation system and/or a map-based driver assistance system, is determined from the comparison result. Contents of information of one of the sources are merged, modified, selected, adjusted and adapted for plausibility checking with that of information of other source. The merged, modified, selected, adjusted and plausibility checked contents are utilized in the navigation and/or assistance systems. The traffic and/or weather information sources are designed as a vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication device and a central traffic and/or weather information source.
