The method involves connecting vent valves (22,24) to actuating cylinder (20) and connecting main cutoff valve (4) with pressure lines (30,32,34) and switching valves (10,12,16,18). The actuating cylinders (6,8) for engagement and disengagement of gears of transmission, are actuated by switching valves controlled by control device (26). Pressure in each pressure line is measured before actuation of actuating cylinder (20) and after opening of cutoff valve. The actuation of actuating cylinder (20) is inhibited if measured pressure is less than lower target pressure.
