The air conditioning system (10) has a compressor (14) and a cold storage (22), where a control unit (24) is provided for controlling the compressor. A prediction unit (26) is provided by which an imminent thrust condition of the motor vehicle is determined. The performance of the compressor is reduced by the control unit as a function of information relating to the imminent thrust condition. The information is outputted from the prediction unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an air conditioning system of a motor vehicle.
