<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization separation element with a wide operation wavelength band, and an optical integrated device. <P>SOLUTION: An optical waveguide polarization separation element that is formed on a substrate comprises: an input light branching part; an output light branching part; first and second arm waveguides that connect the input light branching part and the output light branching part, and consist of optically-guided waves with birefringence property; and one or more heating parts that are individually formed above the first and second arm waveguides. Geometrically, the second arm waveguide is longer than the first arm waveguide by an amount equivalent to or less than a degree corresponding to an increment in an optical path length caused to the first arm waveguide when the heating parts apply heating to the first arm waveguide so as to provide it with the birefringence property. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
