The invention relates to an assembly made of a flat writing instrument (1) and of an element (2) that holds the writing instrument (1) against a supporting surface of an exercise book or notebook, which is intended to immobilize the instrument (1) in a storage position wherein it extends parallel to the support surface, characterized in that the element (2) is formed of a body (21) having a first fixing face (211) which is intended to be applied to the supporting surface, and a second face (221), opposite the fixing face (211), carrying a means of immobilizing the instrument (1), the fixing face (211) carrying a means for fixing the element (2) to the supporting surface in such a way that the element (2) can be fixed to the supporting surface without protruding from the notebook or exercise book.
