The method involves displaying an operation patch (10) for vehicle-side executable function on a display (1) in a vision region of a rider. Viewing direction (3) of the rider is detected based on the operation patch on the display by a viewing direction detecting unit (2). The detected viewing direction is evaluated by a computing unit (5), which is coupled with the viewing direction detecting unit and the display. The operation patch observed by the rider is determined. The vehicle-side executable function is triggered in user-controlled manner based on the determined operation patch. The display is formed as a head-up display and an LCD. An independent claim is also included for a motor car.
