<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fused silica body capable of preventing the moisture penetration. <P>SOLUTION: The fused silica body 102 includes at least a concave internal cavity 104, wherein some or all of inner layers of the cavity are covered by vitreous silica 106. A method for making a layer of vitreous silica includes a step of heating at least a portion of an inner surface of the fused silica body to the point of vitrification, and in certain embodiments, involves passing a linear local heat source over the inner surface in a particular manner, such as a helical fashion orthogonal to the linear shape, and forming an overlapping swathe of temporarily melted silica material on the inner surface of the body. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
