<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit BS and CS digital broadcasting by a pass-through mode in a CATV system. <P>SOLUTION: A CATV system according to the present invention has an existing HFC system and a new transmission system. Optical fiber transmission lines 61 and 62 constructed from a head end 10 to an extension tap-off 70 are newly constructed in the new transmission system. A coaxial cable transmission line 43 connecting the extension tap-off 70 with each user 50 utilizes a coaxial cable transmission line 40. The extension tap-off 70 has a V-ONU 71 and a distributor 81, and each branch terminal of the distributor 81 is connected to each user 50 by the coaxial cable transmission line 43. An extension protector 90 is installed under eaves of each user 50, and the coaxial cable transmission line 43 is drawn indoor via the protector 90. The V-ONU 71 is driven by supplying power from the coaxial cable transmission line 43.
