<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery having excellent safety so as to prevent ignition and explosion caused by increase in battery internal temperature due to overcharge or increase in temperature due to physical impacts. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is a positive electrode comprising an aliphatic nitrile compound, where a surface of the electrode is coated with the aliphatic nitrile compound. A lithium secondary battery having the positive electrode is also disclosed.
