The present invention relates to Apicomplexan rhoptry neck protein 2 (RON2) polypeptide fragments, or homologous polypeptides thereof. The present invention is also directed to a composition comprising such polypeptides for their uses as a medicament, particularly for the prevention or the treatment of Apicomplexan parasite infection. The present invention also encompasses specific antibodies directed against these polypeptides, and method of diagnosis of Apicomplexan parasite infection implementing these polypeptides or antibodies. The invention further comprises a construct for its use in a method for crystallization of the Apicomplexan co-structure AMA1-RON2 complex. The present invention also relates to a computer-readable data storage material. Finally, the invention concerns a method for in silico or in vitro identifying or screening a potential inhibitor of vertebrate, preferably mammalian or avian, host cell invasion by an Apicomplexan parasite.
