A method of manufacturing an orthodontic appliance 2 comprises the steps of providing a plurality of relief or release cuts 4 extending from an edge of a thermoplastic mould 1 through excess thermoplastic material 3 to where the orthodontic appliance, as an integral part of a thermoplastic sheet after being moulded and containing a positive tooth model, extends from the plane of the thermoplastic sheet. The cuts 4 facilitate removal of the model from the mould and may extend as radiuses from a virtual centre - at least one of which may extend along an upstanding portion of the mould, preferably from the most posterior molars. The orthodontic appliance is excised from the mould, preferably cut using scissors, a knife, scalpel or laser. |
