<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely attach a cartridge to an image forming apparatus body by an inexpensive, simple configuration in an image forming apparatus of a process cartridge of a detachable system. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus body 3 is provided with a support member 41, moving members 101 and 102, an opening and closing door 2, and a restricting part 62. A cartridge 11 is provided with a supported part 31c and a restricted part 31j. The support member is moved vertically while moved horizontally by the moving members. The movements of the moving members are linked with the opening and closing of the opening and closing door 2. When attached, the cartridge is inserted horizontally from a longitudinal direction while the supported part 31c is supported by the support member. When the insertion is completed, the restricting part 62 and the restricted part 31j strike against each other to restrict the longitudinal direction. Thereafter, the support member is raised while moved horizontally by the operation of closing the opening and closing door 2.
