PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory device and an operating method thereof are provided to minimize the chip size of the semiconductor memory device by reducing the size of a circuit for a randomization operation. CONSTITUTION: A pattern address generating unit(120) generates a pattern address which is different from the address value of a source address by transmitting the source address composed of a plurality of bits through an electrically connected transmission line. A signal mixing unit(130) mixes the pattern address with data and outputs the mixed result. An address counter generates the source address by counting the address. A page buffering unit(150) performs reading and writing operations in a memory cell array by receiving an output signal of the signal mixing unit.
